The Walters History Exhibit Galleries at the Boone County History & Culture Center

Established in 1990 by the Boone County Historical Society, construction of the Walters History Museum was made possible with donations from businesses and individual members of the Central Missouri community, with a significant donation from Columbia resident Raul Walters in honor of his parents, Bucky and Lala Walters, who were active members of the Society. Through the efforts of the Society’s Board of Directors, a capital campaign was launched and the Society broke ground on the new museum in 1989. The two major exhibit halls and other display areas comprise the 5,500 square feet of historical exhibit space. The Museum also maintains nearly 10,000 square feet of climate-controlled vaults and storage space. Open year-round, three of four history exhibits are generally on display, each exhibit retiring after a 4 to 12 month period to make room for a new exhibit.
